ETF Trends: Fixed Income, Currencies, and Commodities – 5/25/16

EM has staged something of a turnaround in the last couple of days with South Africa and Turkey two prominent members of the best performing ETFs list below.  Italy has also done well as a deal to secure the near future of Greece’s bailout was hammered out yesterday. Homebuilders continue to rally after a strong New Home Sales print yesterday and a solid MBA mortgage applications release this morning.  Precious metals are the worst performers over the last week with numerous gold funds at the top of the list.  The bouncing USD has hurt that trade with a number of currency ETFs also declining on the move.

ETF Trends: International – 5/24/16

Global markets are getting a bounce today, and that’s helping the Nasdaq outperform along with microcaps.  Homebuilders in the ITB are buoyed by strong new home sales this morning (which we’ll be discussing in-depth in our end-of-day report, The Closer, tonight).  Gold continues to get hit hard as the dollar rallies and rate hike probabilities edge higher (at about 40% chance of a June hike as of today).

ETF Trends: US Sectors & Groups – 5/23/16

Semis and biotech continue to outperform on a trailing 1 week basis. Gold is finally starting to give back some of its outperformance as the GDX miners ETF has fallen 5.7% over the last week. Junior miners are also weak with the yellow metal itself.  The remainder of underperformers are basically EM and yield vehicles (VNQ, XLU).

ETF Trends: Hedge – 5/20/16

Below is a list of the best and worst performing ETFs across all asset classes over the last week.  Biotech and semis are the unlikely leaders on the list of the top 20 gainers, with MLPs and crude oil also outperforming. Banks have performed remarkably well. Meanwhile it’s a combination of the pantry (coffee, food and beverage), metals (silver, metals and mining), and EM (Brazil, Latin America, Emerging Europe) owning the worst performance column.

ETF Trends: US Indices & Styles – 5/19/16

Below is a list of the best and worst performing ETFs across all asset classes over the last week.  Biotech continues to outperform, while new highs in oil earlier this week have helped boost Energy-related ETFs including gaudy returns for MLPs.  Semiconductors have also put in a decent run with Banks and the US dollar.  The worst performers are in LatAm with Brazil getting pounded lower.  Other EM assets, REITs, and metals ETFs have fared poorly as well.

ETF Trends: Fixed Income, Currencies, and Commodities – 5/18/16

Below is a list of the best and worst performing ETFs across all asset classes over the last week.  Biotech (XBI) is finally leading the list of winners again after struggling mightily for months.  Natural gas (UNG), steel producers (SLX), and Brazil (EWZ) have been the biggest losers with declines of more than 7% over the last 5 trading days.
