While oil and its recent troubles get the most coverage in the energy markets, the way that natural gas has traded recently has been just as bad. After trending steadily lower over the last six months, the bottom has fallen out of natural gas. Over the last week alone, natural gas prices have fallen from $2.47 down to $2.06, and at one point yesterday even ticked below $2 yesterday.
As shown below, while oil is down big again this year at -18.8%, natural gas is down nearly 10 percentage points more at -27.2%!
